Attention: New Point of Sale

Being a small business is tough and expensive. We need to look for ways to be smart in our finances. That being said, beginning August 10th, all credit card transactions will add 3% processing fee. This way, instead of Behold the Beauty paying everyone’s processing fees, each person will pay their own. This will allow us to save some money that can be spent on education or bringing you new services or products. Thanks for your support and understanding.

Come See Our Makeover!

We have relocated within the Margate Resort to the Lakefront Building and have TRIPLED our space, while adding more capacity for your Wedding Party or other special occasion group event.  We have plenty of room for family haircuts, manicures, pedicures, and even an on-site esthetician for cosmetic skin treatments such as facials, chemical peels, body treatments, and waxing.  In addition, we are accessible via an elevator down to basement level (no more stairs)!  If you are a guest of the Margate, you can find us near the end of the underground corridor, leading to the breakfast area.

Come check us out!

Meet the Esthetician!

Esthetician Cindy Lavoie

Following her dream of working with her two daughters, Cindy completed the hours required to become a Licensed Esthetician.  To complete the package, she attended Make-up Designory school and attained certification as a make-up artist.  Today she works with Behold the Beauty giving facials and performing waxing services to bring about healthy skin and natural beauty.  For that special occasion she offers make-up applications to create that unique look.  “It’s never too late to follow your dreams and start a new career.”

All About Braiding

The braiding of hair is a tradition dating back more than 5,000 years. It is the act of passing strands over one another in a type of weave pattern. There are many types of braids including, the regular 3 strand braid, the French braid (which incorporates hair from the sides into each side as it is woven), the fishtail braid (which is 2 sections rather than 3, and a little hair from that outer side of each is crossed over to and added to the other side, alternating as you go), the rope braid (which is a type of twisted 2 strand braid), cornrow braids (which are little French braids in rows all over the head), 5 strand (and more) French braid, Dutch braids (which are the same as French except that you are crossing the middle out over the sides each time) and many others.
Long ago women wore their hair in braids for many reasons. They may have been in such a culture that used hair styles to distinguish themselves among others, whether they were married, widowed, of courting age, of a higher class family or any number of other reasons. Then there were those who wore braids to keep their hair out of their way while they worked. Still, others wore braids simply to eliminate the need to wash their hair as often, since bathing and showering was not as common or easily done. Having one’s hair braided was often a social event, as the styles wore were often quite intricate and time consuming.
Today women wear braids for different reasons, simplicity, fashion and keeping it out of the way or up off the neck are a few reasons. Then there are sporting events, weddings, proms, dates, just because, work and more. I’m sure you have your own reasons! Here are some examples of the different braids people do at the present time.

Meet the Owner

Jennifer Paddock

Jennifer has been a licensed hairstylist/cosmetologist for over 30 years. She started out working at SunDay’s in Laconia until she married and moved to DC. There she had a rare opportunity to work inside the Pentagon! It was a small 2 chair salon inside The Cosmetic Center & Salon. There she got to attend many different kinds of classes as education was very important to the company. She was also able to meet many influential people. After her husband got orders to Germany, she set up a small salon in her home for the American families. A 16 year hiatus happened to be a wife and mother and the beauty industry wooed her back with promises of updos! After meeting someone who wanted help doing wedding hair (her favorite), it went from “help with wedding hair” to “please manage the business” to “I just want you to have it!” And that’s how she became the owner of Behold the Beauty!

Jumping into a business without a clientele is a huge leap of faith. She took as many classes as she could to catch up and learn the latest trends and has added 9 certifications to her resume! Helping bring out a person’s natural beauty is important to her and though she loves the day to day clients (who keep the business running) weddings are her sweet spot and most favorite part of her job.
